A fourth item is how the week hides while it still looks aimed.

You're wiped out. The couch can see your hands.

You say you were in the work all week. They saw the errand, the tabs, the store. Tired reads as effort, and effort is how the wrong week keeps its name. You only get three, and they have to be the life you're actually pointing at. The life that photographs better can wait outside.

The session where another person could sit in

Morning at the document. The session where another person could sit in and know it's the job. The conversation that is the job, not a meeting about the job. If one of them belongs to a week you've already admitted you don't want, it comes off, even if that week feels familiar and therefore honest. Familiar isn't the same as aimed.

What if a fourth item is how the week hides while it still looks aimed?

A fourth finger means the hiding already started

A fourth finger means the hiding already started. You can feel it. The extra item makes the aim look full while the days go somewhere else. I used to bring a fourth so the three wouldn't look thin. Leave it unsaid in the opening. Three, once. If one of them has no home inside the day you're building, leave a blank instead of importing a verb from the old week. A blank is uglier and it's cleaner. The listener can repeat three words, or two, or one. If they need a speech to remember them, you brought wishes.

You don't borrow a prettier trio because yours sounds dull on camera. Dull and true will still be the life. Pretty and borrowed will be a costume you have to keep explaining. The opening ends when the three are boring enough to say without selling them. And also is the fourth one trying to sit back down. It arrives sounding like the thing a serious person would add. A little extra. The reasonable piece you'll touch once the three are safe. The three don't get safer because a fourth is waiting in the hallway. The fourth is usually where the week went, wearing a bonus costume.

You can be wiped out and still be aimed at the old

Busy isn't aimed. You can be wiped out and still be aimed at the old life. Tired even helps the costume, because tired reads as effort, and effort gets mistaken for the right verbs. The witness doesn't score effort. The witness names what occurred, which was driving, loading, replying, rearranging, and scrolling. If those are the actions, they go on the list you're living, separate from the three you want. You don't sand the living list down so the distance looks kinder. A kinder distance that isn't true is another costume.

I used to call the busiest block by the title I wished it had. Pick that block and give it the name you'd hate on a card. If the name stings, the distance is already in the room. The recording can hold a sting. It can't hold a renamed hour, not with a witness who heard the real sound of what you did. They heard the errand. You don't get to dub it.

Tuesday, the page was open. A thought about the page isn't the page. Picture somebody who doesn't particularly like you, sitting where they can see your hands. They don't get the story you tell yourself about what the open document meant. They get the hands. Monday the hands were on a wheel. Tuesday the document was up and the hands were on replies that belonged to other people. Wednesday the hands were in a store for the third time. That's the week they would describe if you left the room and they had to say it plain.

Go day by day, and only keep a verb if that witness

Go day by day, and only keep a verb if that witness could point at it. If the verb lives in your head, it doesn't get a day. A verb without a day is a wish you were about to sneak back in. Use the days you had. Nobody is going to lend you a better sample. If what they saw was small, say the small thing in a flat voice, the same voice you'd use if it had been impressive. The voice change is the tell. Flat is how the week actually sounded.

The errand and the page don't meet in the middle. Put both lists where a listener can see them. What you wanted, blanks included. What the couch would confirm, each with a day. If you narrate the distance as a tragedy, you've left the columns and entered a mood. The columns are enough. Don't blend them into kind of. Kind of lets neither column win. Two sentences. Wanted. Seen. Watch the face across from you when the second one lands, and don't collect the recognition.

This week, say the seen list to the couch in the flat voice, day by day. Don't rename the errand into the work so the distance looks kinder. Leave the fourth thing unsaid when and also shows up.

A fourth finger means the hiding already started. I know that extra finger. People add it so the week will look aimed while the days go elsewhere. I used to bring a fourth so the three would not look thin. Three verbs, the life you are pointing at, and if they need a speech to remember them, you brought wishes.

The post left early, and the post was doing the covering

The post left early, and the post was doing the covering. I know that early send. It puts a caption on an hour the document did not survive. I used to be proudest of the item that dies when the audience is removed. Name it. If the pride dies with the audience, it was a show. No eulogy.

The next version is bigger: A fourth item is how the week hides while it still looks aimed.
